As more and more people work from home, the importance of a well-designed and functional home office has become more and more obvious. Whether you work from home full-time or only occasionally, having a dedicated workspace that meets your needs can have a huge impact on your productivity, creativity and overall job satisfaction. In this blog post, we'll explore the reasons why a good home office is so important and give you tips for creating a workspace that helps you do your best work.

A good working environment is essential for a productive working day - whether at work or at home. That's why we asked stylist Katrine Martensen-Larsen about how to create a good home office.

"What is important for the solution to be long-lasting is to establish both a functional and an aesthetic solution. As a rule of thumb, you should design the workplace in the space you like to be in the most. We tend to sit where it is most pleasant to be and where the light is best. Some people need complete peace and quiet, while others don't like being cut off from the rest of the family. So before you start buying office furniture, you should first figure out where in your home you want your home office to be located" - Katrine Martensen-Larsen, stylist

Katrine continues:

"If it's in the dining room at the dining room table, you need to be able to quickly and easily pack up your 'office' - and then a laptop and maybe a couple of nice boxes for storing papers, writing utensils and whatever else you might need is probably a solution. The company August Sandgren makes some great handmade boxes in leather. But you can also find cheaper boxes at, for example, HAY, IKEA or at the ELVO box company."

"If you need peace and quiet to do your work at home, then perhaps the room that is otherwise used as a combined office and guest room is the one to look at. Many people have such an extra room - but because it has to accommodate two completely different functions, it works neither well as an office nor as a guest room. Perhaps you should ask yourself the question: "How often do we actually have overnight guests, and could we solve this challenge in a different way?" And then go all-in on creating a beautiful office that you will use on a daily basis," Katrine Martensen-Larsen explains.

In Katrine's home, she has set up a home office in the living room. It requires space to have the desk freestanding, but it also creates a more inclusive home office in the interior design.

Katrine elaborates:
"If you have plenty of space, I would recommend placing your work table a bit out in the room - so you sit with your back to the wall and can look out into the room, instead of into the wall. It's also beneficial to position your desk so that you get daylight coming in from the side. Keep in mind that your desk needs to look beautiful from all sides, especially if it's in the middle of the room. If you want the solution to be aesthetically pleasing, it's also important to organize all your wiring. A large basket next to the desk can be a great help - the company Lillerød has beautiful baskets".

"And remember that if you need a lot of A4 folders, they don't have to be red, yellow, blue and green. There are many manufacturers that make great ring binders and document folders in recycled cardboard. For example, Green Office, Stefan Papir and Ordning & Reda. Last but not least, a beautiful bulletin board is also practical and decorative. Ferm Living, Lintex and Manufakture make the most beautiful boards" - Katrine adds.
